The Legacy of DJ Threat

Jason "DJ Threat" Campbell was a pioneer of NYC's mixtape and radio culture. Born and raised in Brentwood, Long Island, he co-founded the legendary Heavy Hitters DJ Crew — a collective that would go on to become one of the most influential DJ movements in hip-hop and Latin music history. Known to many as DJThreat the Turntable Assassin, his skills behind the decks were unmatched.

His talent behind the decks earned him a spot at Hot 97, New York's premier hip-hop radio station, where he became a voice for the streets. He also hosted "Taking to da Streets," a show that broke records, introduced new artists, and kept the culture moving forward.

Beyond radio, DJ Threat was named East Coast Director of Promotions for Atlantic Records, bridging the gap between DJs and the music industry. His mixtapes, club sets, and radio broadcasts influenced a generation of DJs and music lovers across the city and beyond.

After his untimely passing, a DJ crew was formed in his honor, carrying on his name and legacy alongside the Heavy Hitters. Though he left us too soon, his impact lives on through the crews he built, the DJs he mentored, and the culture he helped shape. 25 years later, his name still carries weight.
